Schmidt asks U.S. Attorney to investigate Wulsin financial disclosures

The campaign of U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) followed through on an earlier threat, and has now asked U.S. Attorney Gregory Lockhart to investigate allegations that opponent Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) failed to file, and filed false information, on her federal financial disclosure documents.

In September the Schmidt campaign had asked Wulsin to correct or amend her federally required filings. Schmidt spokesperson Bruce Pfaff said she has failed to do so.

"It is unfortunate that Mrs. Wulsin has forced us to make this request," Pfaff said. "She and her campaign have a legal and ethical responsibility to file timely and accurate reports; obviously she feels she is above the law."

Wulsin accuses Schmidt of paying campaign staff with tax dollars

The campaign of Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) is accusing U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt of paying her campaign staff with tax dollars. Schmidt responded by calling the accusation an out-and-out lie.

The Wulsin camp is pointing to the most recent Federal Election Commission filings as raising new questions about whether Schmidt's congressional staff are improperly working for her campaign.

In July, Hamilton County Democratic Party Chair Tim Burke wrote a letter to the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct asking for an investigation into whether Schmidt's congressional staff were improperly working on her campaign. Burke asked the Committee to find out if staffers in Schmidt's office were improperly using congressional resources for campaign purposes.
