Portman secures $100k for McCain fundraiser

Portman, a former U.S. representative from the 2nd Congressional District and most recently head of the federal Office of Management and Budget, has been soliciting donations for tomorrow's event for about a month and has supported McCain for president since March, according to spokesman Andrew Ciafardini.

Ciafardini said Portman is fully behind McCain for president.

"Rob Portman believes Senator John McCain is the best candidate for the presidency of the United States and will make the best president. He will continue to do everything in his ability to support the senator, officially or unofficially, and that includes raising money," Ciafardini said.

McCain will collect even more than Portman's share tomorrow as a result of efforts by his Ohio Victory committee finance chairs John Barrett and Mark Hauser, as well as national finance co-chair Mercer Reynolds.

Reynolds was President Bush's 2004 national finance co-chair and Bush's 2000 Ohio co-chair. Hauser is the CEO of the Cincinnati-based Hauser Group insurance company hosted a 2006 fundraiser for Mike DeWine's 2006 Senate reelection that netted about $1 million. Barrett is a long-time Republican fundraiser and CEO of the Western Southern insurance company.

The private fundraiser will be held at the home of American Financial Group co-president Carl Lindner. Lindner was formerly Mitt Romney's Ohio finance co-chair.

Rob WHO?

McCain will have about 60 days to sell himself to the country after the convention. many are understandably concerned about voting for a septugenarian and will look closely at the VP next in line. McCain cannot remotely spend these 60 priceless days introducing a phantom VP to the electrorate. Why don't you guys in the media occassionally THINK.
