The anti-Pryor mailer: EqualityOhio.comThe Ohio Republican Party is attacking a Democratic state House candidate for supporting “gay adoption” in a direct-mail piece.
Ray Pryor, running for the 85th district around Chillicothe, is accused of supporting same-sex couples adopting children, the mailer claims, citing an inaccessible part of Pryor’s 2006 campaign website.
The flier gets tougher with two bullet points made to look like tears falling from a young girl’s face that say Pryor “thinks it’s okay that Ohio’s children don’t have a mother and father” and that he isn’t “looking out for our children’s best interests.”
It closes: “Vote No On Gay Adoption, Vote No on Ray Pryor.”
Gay-rights group Equality Ohio unveiled the mailer on its website. Executive Director Lynne Bowman told PolitickerOH.com she thought it was terrible the ORP was using children to make a political attack. Bowman said children adopted by gays live in loving homes.
Pyror couldn’t be reached for comment.

"This case touches on the most fundamental of rights of American citizens: the right to vote."
- U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley, who decided the congressional contest in OH-15 must count provisional ballots.
Schlichter's response
As a gay prospective parent, I am pretty ticked off about this. I got so fired up yesterday that I looked up the number of Schlichter's campaign office, and called it. His wife answered - it was his home number. She was very nice and took my number - I didn't tell her why I called - and he called me back.
I told him the mailing was incorrect and insulting, asked him for an apology, and asked if he stood by the mailing. All he could say was, "I appreciate your views and thank you for your call."
I wonder if I can expect more from Bob Bennett, the chair of the Ohio Republican Party, which paid for the mailing - and from Speaker John Husted, who should be keeping an eye on members of his caucus.
Who the hell do these guys think they are, telling voters that I'm not fit to be a parent, and that politicians who support me aren't fit for office? What a bunch of bigots.
