Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) is continuing to hammer on U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) on the issue of the economy.
Wulsin went up with a TV ad last week hitting Schmidt for a comment made during a debate saying that the economic crisis came around two weeks ago.
Now Wulsin is jumping on comments the Wulsin camp said Schmidt made to a local television station. The Wulsin camp quotes Schmidt as saying "people need to stop panicking" about the economic crisis.
"I have some news for Representative Schmidt, " Wulsin said. "We aren't in a 'mental' recession, the fundamentals of the economy are not strong and people in Southern Ohio are not panicked. They are worried that the economic crisis on Wall Street puts their families at risk."
Schmidt spokesperson Bruce Pfaff said that apparently Wulsin has nothing better to do with her time than lie to voters.
"Congresswoman Schmidt is working diligently in a bi-partisan manner with her colleagues in Congress to address our country's economic crisis," Pfaff said. "The solution to this crisis is not partisan games, deceitful tactics and out right lying to scare voters, as our opponents seem more than willing to do, the people of the 2nd District deserve better."
Wulsin has kept on Schmidt for the comment at the debate, which businessman David Krikorian (I-Madeira) first jumped on during the debate.
Krikorian told Schmidt that while she may have only noticed the economic crisis "two weeks ago," he noticed it "three years ago."
U.S. Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) criticized Schmidt for the comment when he joined Wulsin and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Niles) for a tour of the Clermont County Veteran's Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Batavia on Friday.
"Some people say they just noticed the economic crisis a few weeks ago," Murtha said. "If that's the case, then they shouldn't be in Congress."
The Schmidt campaign had previously responded to Wulsin piling on the comments by saying that the Wulsin campaign was imploding.
Hamilton County Democratic Party chair Tim Burke called Schmidt "out-of-touch" for her comment.
Burke said that in Congress Schmidt voted against tighter regulations for the banking industry.
"Maybe she did not realize our nation was in an economic crisis because she was too busy being part of the problem," Burke said.
Pfaff accused the Wulsin campaign of perpetuating a lie.
"The real message for Ms. Wulsin and her campaign is that it doesn't matter how many times you say a lie it is still a lie," Pfaff said. "But I guess at the end of the day it is what we have come to expect from her."
