Schuring hammers Boccieri on 'outsiders' trying to 'buy' seat

State Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Township) is hammering on opponent state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) for "outsiders" inflicting themselves on the race for the 16th Congressional District.

Schuring and Boccieri are vying to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre).

The Schuring campaign is pointing to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Patriot Majority Midwest, a left-leaning advocacy group, as having spent more than $800,000 on the race, according to Federal Elections Commission reports.

"Now House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel are coming to Cleveland to help Boccieri raise more money," said Schuring campaign manager PJ Wenzel. "He's an outsider with outsider money trying to buy this seat in Congress."

"More than 80 percent of Kirk's money has been raised right here in the district," Wenzel continued. "Thanks to Pelosi, Emanuel and his Youngstown connections, Mr. Boccieri has brought in 86 percent of his money from outside the four-county district he seeks to represent."

Pelosi and Emanuel have separate fundraisers in the next couple of weeks to aid Boccieri's campaign.

"Outsiders, outsiders, outsiders," Wenzel said. "There is no other way to characterize our opponent's campaign. Outside residency, outside contacts, outside money."

"The DCCC recruited Mr. Boccieri to run for this seat and they have backed up that recruitment with money - lots of money. As of Monday, their independent-expenditure group had put more funds into the 16th district than any other Congressional race in the cycle, according to Roll Call."

PolitickerOH.com is awaiting response from the Boccieri campaign.
