Dispatch endorses Austria in OH-7

The Columbus Dispatch editorial board endorsed state Sen. Steve Austria (R-Beavercreek) in the race for Ohio's 7th Congressional District on Tuesday.

Attorney Sharen Neuhardt (D-Yellow Springs) is vying against Austria to replace retiring U.S. Rep. David Hobson in Ohio's 7th.

The Dispatch wrote that Austria is preferred because of his 10 years of experience, compared to the political newcomer Neuhardt.

The Dispatch wrote that Austria has "built a reputation as a solid state lawmaker who's able to work with Democrats."

The Dispatch noted that Austria may find it difficult to achieve his goals in Congress of reaching a balanced budget and eliminating wasteful spending.

The board noted that Democrats have traditionally mounted weak challenges to Hobson, but this year "two good candidates offer district voters a choice, but Austria gets the nod because of his legislative experience."
