Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray received the endorsement of Ohio's Fraternal Order of Police Friday.
PolitickerOH.com had previously reported on Cordray's efforts to secure the endorsement.
An announcement from the Cordray campaign refers to the organization's support as "critical to the credibility of candidates for Attorney General, the state's chief law enforcement official."
The FOP is Ohio's largest law enforcement organization with 26,300 members. The FOP stayed neutral during Cordray's last run for AG in 1998 against Republican Betty Montgomery.
Ohio FOP president Nick DiMarco said that this time around Cordray was "the clear choice."
"Given Cordray's track record of support for law enforcement, commitment to public employees and proven leadership in public office, Cordray will make an exceptional Attorney General," DiMarco said.
Cordray called the support "meaningful."
"This vote of confidence by the men and women who protect our safety is exceptionally meaningful to me," Cordray said. "I will work hard to make sure they have the resources they need to keep our communities safe, solve crimes, and keep convicted criminals behind bars."
Cordray is running against Republican Mike Crites for the Attorney General position to fill out the term of former Attorney General Marc Dann, who resigned amidst scandal in May.
